Jesmond Library
Volunteer-run community library since 2013, when Newcastle Council closed the original branch. Books to borrow, regular events for children and adults, plus a calm space to read or work.
About Jesmond Library
Jesmond Library is a volunteer-run community library housed in a 1963 Grade II listed building on St George's Terrace. When Newcastle City Council announced the branch's closure in 2013, local residents formed the Friends of Jesmond Library and reopened it in September that year, staffed and managed entirely by volunteers. It continues to offer a free lending service alongside a varied programme of events and activities for children and adults. The building also provides a welcoming space to sit and read newspapers, relax with a coffee, and browse community noticeboards, with workstations and desks offering access to computers, printing and photocopying. It is supported as a registered charity.
