About The Carriage

The Carriage is a pub and eatery housed in the former Jesmond railway station on Archbold Terrace. The building opened on 27 June 1864 as a station on the Blyth and Tyne Railway and closed to passengers in January 1978, after which the surviving station buildings were repurposed. The main station building is Grade II listed, and the site retains its historic railway character, incorporating an adjoining railway carriage and signal box. Operated in connection with the Ship Inn in Ouseburn, the venue serves an entirely plant-based menu, with vegan takes on pub food and drinks. Its combination of preserved Victorian railway architecture and a fully vegan kitchen makes it a distinctive Jesmond venue.
