The Biscuit Factory

Artist-led creative workshops in painting, pottery, embroidery, and writing.

About The Biscuit Factory

The Biscuit Factory is a contemporary art, craft and design gallery at 16 Stoddart Street in the Ouseburn area of Newcastle upon Tyne, housed in a converted Victorian former biscuit warehouse and open since 2002. Billed as the UK's largest independent contemporary art gallery, it exhibits work by hundreds of artists across two floors, including paintings, sculpture, prints, jewellery and design-led homewares, alongside artist studios and a rooftop cafe, with free entry and opening daily from 10am to 5pm. It also hosts a regular programme of artist-led creative workshops covering painting, drawing, pottery, ceramics, textile design, embroidery, sculpture and creative writing, each taught by a practising professional who shares their own process. Most sessions need no prior experience and include all materials, making a workshop an ideal gift or sociable outing. For Jesmond residents it is a 15-minute walk down through Jesmond Vale, and courses change seasonally. The venue is also available for private hire.
