About Jesmond Residents Association

Jesmond Residents Association is a community organisation representing the residents of Jesmond, and describes itself as one of the longest-established residents' associations in the country, founded in 1964. It works to protect and enhance the quality of life in the area and to give residents a collective voice, holding decision-makers to account. The association monitors and responds to planning applications and development proposals, engages with Newcastle City Council on transport and environment policy, and campaigns on housing matters such as the concentration of houses in multiple occupation, its impact on family housing stock and neighbourhood character, alongside licensing, conservation area regulations, and anti-social behaviour. It participates in the Jesmond Community Forum, a broader coalition of local groups that meets bi-monthly to coordinate on cross-cutting issues. Run by a committee, it holds an annual general meeting and public meetings, publishes meeting summaries, and keeps members informed through e-bulletins and newsletters.
