About 17th Newcastle Scout Group (Jesmond)

17th Newcastle Scout Group is based at St George's Church on St George's Close in Jesmond, and offers scouting for young people across the neighbourhood. It runs Beavers for ages 6 to 8, Cubs for ages 8 to 10 and a half, and Scouts for ages 10 and a half to 14, along with Explorers for those aged 14 to 18, so a child can carry on through the sections as they grow. The weekly term-time programme covers everything from teamwork and outdoor skills to camps, badges and community activities.

The group is run by volunteers and is part of City of Newcastle Scouts and the national Scout Association. Places in the busier sections can fill up, so it is worth registering early through the group's website or the City of Newcastle Scouts group finder rather than waiting until a child is exactly the right age. The 17th, like every group, relies on adult volunteers and leaders, and welcoming new helpers is often what allows a section to take on more young people.
