Jesmond.live·

The summer holidays are well under way, and there are still several weeks to fill before children head back to school in early September. If you are looking to keep active five to thirteen-year-olds busy -- and to buy yourself a working day or two -- Jesmond has a good spread of holiday sports camps within walking or Metro distance. Most run week by week, so you can still book the remaining weeks of the break.

Here is our guide to the summer sports camps in and around Jesmond, from long-established multi-sport clubs to junior tennis and swimming, with a nearby option in Gosforth for good measure.

Sports School at Newcastle High School for Girls

Sports School has been running holiday camps across Newcastle for more than thirty years, and for 2026 its Jesmond camp has moved to Newcastle High School for Girls on Tankerville Terrace. (Its usual home at Jesmond Park Academy is closed for maintenance this year.) Camps are open to children aged five to fourteen and run right through the summer holidays.

The days are packed and genuinely varied: football, gymnastics, archery, cricket, martial arts, dance, and dozens of other sports and games rotate through the week, so there is something for every child regardless of which sport they favour. Camp days run from 10am to 4pm, with wraparound care available from 8:30am and up to 5:25pm for working parents.

For 2026 the Jesmond camp is priced at £130 per week or £30 per day, with wraparound care charged at £9 per day. You can check the latest dates and book on the Sports School website.

Best for: Established multi-sport variety with the longest wraparound day in Jesmond.

Epic Camps at West Jesmond Primary

Newer to the scene, Epic Camps runs from West Jesmond Primary School on Tankerville Terrace, a short walk from West Jesmond Metro. Camps are for children aged five to thirteen and blend active and creative sessions, with a fresh theme each week -- everything from Olympics weeks to nature explorers.

The activity mix leans on multi-sport games such as football, dodgeball, cricket, tennis, and rounders, alongside arts and crafts, team challenges, obstacle courses, and drama, all delivered in age-grouped sessions. The stand-out feature for parents is the day itself: sessions run from 8am to 5:30pm with free wraparound care included, which makes it one of the more workday-friendly options locally.

Weekly themes and prices are listed on the Epic Camps website, or you can call 07726 328498 to check availability for the remaining weeks.

Best for: A long, workday-friendly day with free wraparound care built in.

Junior Tennis at The Northumberland Club

If your child would rather focus on a single sport, The Northumberland Club on North Jesmond Avenue runs junior tennis holiday camps through the summer. As the largest rackets facility in the North East, it is well set up for children of all ages and abilities.

The club splits its camps by age: a Mini Tennis camp suits four to nine-year-olds, mixing mini red tennis sessions with multi-sport games such as rounders, football, and a mini Olympics, while the Tennis Camp is aimed at nine to sixteen-year-olds and works through the tactical, physical, mental, and technical sides of the game. Camp days run 10am to 4pm, with additional supervision available between 8am and 6pm if you book it. Dates and booking are handled through the club's ClubSpark pages.

Best for: Tennis-focused coaching for beginners through to keen young players.

Jesmond Lawn Tennis Club

Also worth a look for tennis is Jesmond Lawn Tennis Club on Osborne Road, which runs junior camps through the school holidays for children aged six to fifteen. Camps typically run on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30am to 3pm, with the Bank Holiday Monday session moving to the Tuesday. Group coaching is open to both members and non-members, so you do not need to join to take part. Email the club to confirm dates, pricing, and to register.

Best for: Flexible day-camp tennis for members and non-members alike.

Swimming at Jesmond Pool

Not every child wants to spend the day on a field, and Jesmond has its own community pool for those who prefer the water. Jesmond Pool and Gym on Stoneyhurst Road is an independent, not-for-profit 25-metre pool with a learn-to-swim programme and holiday activities. It is a good complement to a sports camp -- a swim session or crash-course lesson can break up a week of running around outdoors. Check their current timetable for holiday swim sessions and lesson availability.

Best for: A community pool option for children who would rather be in the water.

A nearby option: Next Generation NE Sport in Gosforth

If the Jesmond camps are booked up for the week you need, Next Generation NE Sport is a short Metro ride or drive away and runs multi-sport camps for children aged five to thirteen. Its nearest venues to Jesmond are Westfield School in Gosforth and Kingston Park Primary, with camps running for six weeks from the week beginning Monday 20 July 2026. Days run from 8:45am to 3:30pm. You can find dates, venues, and booking on the Next Generation NE Sport website or call 07885 379410.

Booking the remaining weeks

With the holidays already in full swing, availability changes week to week, so it is worth booking as early as you can for the dates you need. Most of the camps above take bookings by the day as well as by the week, which makes it easy to mix and match around family plans, work, and the occasional day out.
