About The Northumberland Club

The Northumberland Club is a members' racquets and fitness club in the heart of Jesmond, and the largest of its kind in the North East. The current ground was opened by the then Duke of York in 1926, and the club was formally established in 1974 as the Northumberland Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club, bringing together earlier clubs based on the site. Tennis has been played on the ground for more than ninety years, and over recent decades the club has also developed into one of the region's leading squash venues. A four-court indoor sports hall hosts badminton for both members and visiting clubs. Membership caters for all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced and competitive players.
