About The Northumberland Club
The Northumberland Club is a members' racquets and fitness club on North Jesmond Avenue in the heart of Jesmond, and the largest of its kind in the North East. The current ground was opened by the then Duke of York in 1926, and the club was formally established in 1974 as the Northumberland Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club, bringing together earlier clubs based on the site. Members can play tennis, squash, pickleball, badminton, and table tennis, with five squash courts considered among the finest in the region, tennis courts, an indoor sports hall, and a gym, alongside fitness classes, Hotpod Yoga, and Tribal Cycle sessions. A bar, cafe, and lounge provide the social hub, open from 7am daily. Memberships start from around 29 pounds per month across various tiers, with open days and taster sessions throughout the year, and leagues, tournaments, and coaching create a genuine club community for all ages and abilities.
