Quiz Nights in Jesmond
At least four Jesmond pubs run regular quiz nights. Here's which night, which pub, and what to expect.
If you're the sort of person who knows the capital of Burkina Faso but can never remember where you left your keys, Jesmond has you covered. At least four pubs run regular quiz nights, spread across the week so you can find one most evenings.
Monday — The Collingwood Arms
The Collingwood Arms on St Nicholas Avenue runs a quiz every Monday night at 9pm. Entry is £1 per person, with cash prizes and free snacks for participants. It's a traditional general knowledge format in a proper Jesmond local — unpretentious and reliably good fun.
Wednesday — Holy Hobo
The Holy Hobo on Osborne Road hosts The Big Fact Hunt every Wednesday from 8pm. This is not your standard pen-and-paper quiz. Expect interactive rounds that might involve anything from dancing to eating ghost chilli peppers alongside the trivia. The prize is a mystery box where you pick a key to try to unlock the cash box, which builds by £50 every week with potential winnings up to £1,000. Free entry.
Thursday — The Lonsdale
The Lonsdale in West Jesmond runs Quiz Bingo on Thursdays, where the winner of each round gets a bar token worth at least £10. It is a lively format that keeps the energy up throughout the evening. The Lonsdale also runs a more traditional quiz on Sunday evenings — five rounds of ten questions, with the overall winner taking 50 per cent of the prize pot.
Sunday — The Lonsdale (again)
Sunday at the Lonsdale is the more conventional option — five rounds of ten general knowledge questions, starting at 6pm. The winner takes half the collected entry fees, so the prize grows with the crowd.
Tips
Arrive early. Most quiz pubs don't take table reservations for quiz night — it's first come, first served for the best seats.
Check before you go. Quiz nights can be cancelled for bank holidays, football matches, or private events. A quick check of the pub's social media on the day saves a wasted trip.
Team size. Most quizzes work best with 4-6 people. Bigger teams dilute the prize; smaller teams leave gaps in your knowledge.
