Jesmond Parish Church's much-loved Carols by Candlelight returns for 2026, with traditional carols, Bible readings and around a thousand candles across a series of services from 6 to 13 December.
About This Event
One of Jesmond's best-known Christmas traditions, Carols by Candlelight fills Jesmond Parish Church with around a thousand candles for an evening of traditional carols, Bible readings and a short talk. The church, right next to Jesmond Metro on Eskdale Terrace, runs the services across more than a week so there is plenty of choice of date. Services in 2026 are on Sunday 6 December (4.30pm and 6.30pm), Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 December (8pm each), Saturday 12 December (4.30pm and 6.30pm) and Sunday 13 December (4.30pm and 6.30pm). The 4.30pm service on 6 December is a relaxed, accessible service with BSL interpretation, extra lighting and quieter music, and childcare is provided at the 4.30pm services. Admission is free with no booking needed; doors open about 30 minutes before each service, and arriving early is wise as the candlelit services are popular.
