About The Blue Bell

The Blue Bell is a traditional pub in Jesmond Vale, on the quiet eastern edge of Jesmond beside the Ouseburn. It stands on the site of one of three pubs that once served the old village of Jesmond Vale, and the present building dates from a 1912 rebuild. Historically it was a five-room pub with a single bar and four sitting rooms, and had a walled garden next to the burn. When much of the old Jesmond Vale village was cleared under a 1967 redevelopment scheme, the Blue Bell was the only one of the village's pubs left standing, and it remains open today as a surviving landmark of that lost community.
