What's On This Weekend in Jesmond & the North East (20-22 June)
The Hoppings returns to Town Moor, Jesmond Food Market on Armstrong Bridge, Blyth Live on the beach, and Father's Day afternoon tea at Tyneside Cinema.
Father's Day falls on Sunday this weekend, and there is no shortage of ways to celebrate -- whether that means a wander around the Jesmond Food Market, a ride on the dodgems at The Hoppings, or settling into a leather seat at Tyneside Cinema with a gin and tonic and The Godfather on the big screen. Here is what is on from Friday to Sunday.
The Hoppings 2026
From Friday 19 June on Town Moor, Newcastle. Europe's largest travelling funfair returns to the Town Moor for its annual run. Rides, stalls, and enough candyfloss to last a year. A ten-minute walk from Jesmond, and a Newcastle tradition since 1882.
Jesmond Food Market
Saturday 20 June at Armstrong Bridge, Jesmond. The monthly food market returns to its spot beside Armstrong Bridge, with local producers, baked goods, street food, and fresh veg. A proper Jesmond Saturday morning.
Blyth Live 2026
Saturday 20 June at Blyth Beach. A full day of live music on the Northumberland coast. Multiple stages, local and national acts, and the beach as your backdrop. Well worth the trip up the coast.
Sounds of the Underground: Bitchfinder General
Friday 19 June in the Ouseburn. Heavy riffs and theatrical energy from Bitchfinder General at one of the Ouseburn's underground venues. A short walk downhill from Jesmond for anyone who likes their Friday nights loud.
Jeff Beck & Rod Stewart Experience -- The Cluny
Saturday 20 June at the Cluny, Ouseburn. A tribute to two of British rock's greatest, performed in one of Newcastle's best live music rooms. The Cluny is always worth a visit, and this one promises big guitar solos and even bigger hair.
The Godfather + Afternoon Tea -- Tyneside Cinema
Sunday 21 June at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle. A Father's Day treat: Coppola's masterpiece on the big screen, with afternoon tea served in the cinema. An offer he can't refuse.
The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) -- Northern Stage
Friday 19 June at Northern Stage, Newcastle. All 37 plays in 97 minutes. A fast, funny, and irreverent sprint through Shakespeare's entire catalogue. Perfect for anyone who has always meant to read the complete works but never quite got round to it.
Tynemouth Station Market
Saturday and Sunday at Tynemouth Station. FREE entry. Handmade crafts, vintage finds, street food, and live music beneath the Victorian canopy. A short Metro ride from Jesmond and a reliable weekend out.
