Spotlight: Kumon Jesmond

From age three to A-level, the Kumon Jesmond Study Centre on Sandyford Road has been helping local children build confidence in maths and English since 2012.

If your child could do with a confidence boost in maths or English — or you simply want to stretch an already capable learner — Kumon Jesmond is worth a look. Based at 156 Sandyford Road, the centre has been a fixture of the local education scene since September 2012.

How It Works

Kumon is a structured, self-learning programme. Children attend the centre twice a week and complete short daily worksheets at home the other five days. The idea is to build strong foundations: students master each topic before moving on, developing discipline and fluency along the way. The programme covers maths and English from early years right through to A-level material.

Who Runs It

The Jesmond centre is led by Natalie Taylor, who holds a first-class degree in mathematics and previously taught maths in secondary schools. She became a Kumon Instructor in 2012 and has built a loyal local following, with families travelling from as far as County Durham.

Practicalities

Registration costs 35 pounds and tuition is 55 pounds per month per subject. The office is open for enquiries on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 11am and 2pm. Children from surrounding Jesmond schools make up much of the roll, though the centre welcomes learners from any area.

For parents weighing up supplementary tuition options in Jesmond, Kumon offers a well-established methodology with a track record stretching back decades worldwide — and a convenient location just off the main road.
