Spotlight: Jesmond Lawn Tennis Club
Three courts on Osborne Road with adult and junior coaching, LED floodlights, and affordable annual membership — Jesmond's own community tennis club.
You do not need a David Lloyd membership to play tennis in Jesmond. Jesmond Lawn Tennis Club has been serving the neighbourhood from its three courts on Osborne Road for years — offering proper coaching, competitive play, and a sociable club atmosphere at a fraction of the cost.
Coaching
Adult and junior coaching runs in blocks of five or six weeks, aligned with school half-terms. Sessions are open to both members and non-members, making it easy to dip a toe in before joining. Coaches can also arrange private lessons if group sessions do not suit.
Membership
Annual fees for 2026-27 are 175 pounds for adults, 85 pounds for students, and 60 pounds for juniors (30 pounds for younger juniors). That includes use of LED floodlights, so you can play year-round even after dark. Compared with commercial health clubs, it is remarkable value.
The Club
With three courts and a manageable membership size, you will quickly get to know other players. The club suits everyone from rusty returners to county-level competitors. Social tennis, ladders, and club nights keep things lively beyond coaching sessions.
