Charity Shops in Jesmond
Three charity shops on and around St Georges Terrace -- including a specialist Oxfam bookshop and a designer boutique.
Jesmond's charity shop scene is small but distinctive. Three shops sit within a few minutes' walk of each other, each with a clear identity — a specialist bookshop, a general store with furniture, and a designer boutique. Here is what you will find.
Oxfam Books & Music
Oxfam Books & Music at 57 St Georges Terrace is the standout. Open since 2010, this specialist shop stocks over 5,000 books and 2,000 records, plus CDs, games, sheet music, cards, and stationery. It is one of the few dedicated Oxfam Books & Music branches in the North East.
Late opening on Thursdays and Fridays (until 7pm) makes it easy to browse after work. Fair Trade products are also available.
Best for: Books, vinyl, sheet music, late opening Thu-Fri until 7pm.
Mind Jesmond
Mind Jesmond on St Georges Terrace is run by Tyneside and Northumberland Mind. The shop sells clothing, furniture, and household items, with new stock arriving daily. It has earned a reputation as one of the best charity shops in the North East, with an eclectic, well-curated feel.
Opening hours are generous — 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays — making it one of the easiest charity shops to visit in the area. All profits support local mental health services.
Best for: Clothing, furniture, Sunday opening, supports local mental health charity.
St Oswald's Hospice Boutique
St Oswald's Hospice Boutique at 5 Hazelwood Avenue is a designer charity shop. Expect labels such as Gucci, Burberry, Barbour, Ray-Ban, and The North Face at significantly reduced prices. This is not a typical charity shop rummage — the stock is curated and the shop has a boutique feel.
Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 4:30pm. All profits go to St Oswald's Hospice, which provides specialist care for adults with life-limiting conditions and support for their families.
Best for: Designer labels, boutique format, all profits to St Oswald's Hospice.
