About This Event

The Ouseburn Trust's Sounds of the Underground series presents intimate gigs in the pitch black of the Victorian-era Victoria Tunnel, built in 1842 to transport coal and later converted into a Second World War air-raid shelter. Only 50 tickets are available, making each performance a genuinely unique experience beneath Newcastle's streets. Laurie Shepherd is a Newcastle singer-songwriter whose style rests between jazz and folk, with sweeping melodies and an ethereal quality rooted in nature. The Moonfires are her alt-folk trio with Josh Green (percussion) and Jude Murphy (bass/vocals), formed in 2025 and already making waves across the North East, including a support slot for folk singer Sam Lee at Gosforth Civic Theatre. Dress warmly. It is a constant 12 degrees in the tunnel, and leave bags at home as space is limited.
