Jesmond Library

Jesmond Library on St George's Terrace runs free Rhyme Time sessions for babies and toddlers. These 30-minute drop-in sessions feature songs, rhymes, and stories. No booking needed. Contact the library on 0191 277 1443 to confirm the current schedule, as session days can change each term.

Music and Sensory Classes

Hartbeeps runs at St Hilda's Church on Thornleigh Road West on weekday mornings. Baby Bells (newborn-8 months), Baby Beeps (8-18 months), and Happy House (18 months-4 years) — interactive, multi-sensory sessions with music, lights, and puppets. Book online.

Adventure Babies runs sensory storytelling classes in the Jesmond area. Each week follows a different picture book, brought to life with props, puppets, textures, and messy play. Pay-as-you-go.

Best for: Hartbeeps and Adventure Babies both book up quickly. Check their websites early in the term for availability.

Baby Swimming

Jesmond Pool on St George's Terrace offers baby and toddler swimming lessons through Jesmond Aqua School. Sessions run in the warm learner pool. Monthly rolling programme. Contact 0191 281 5581 or book via the Jesmond Aqua School website.

Water Babies runs parent-and-baby swimming classes at various pools across Newcastle, with sessions suitable from birth. Small class sizes in heated pools.

Puddle Ducks offers Floaties (0-9 months) and Splashers (6-15 months) at pools across the North East, including venues close to Jesmond. Monthly subscription.

Soft Play and Cafes

The Butterwick Room at Jesmond Dene is a popular spot for a post-group walk with the pushchair. The cafe at Millfield House has space for buggies and highchairs.

For indoor soft play, Kidz Corner at Kingston Park and Hopscotch Play Cafe in Gosforth are both a short drive away and have dedicated under-1s areas.

Tips

Term time only. Most church hall groups and library sessions stop during school holidays. Always check before travelling.

Arrive early. The most popular groups fill up within the first few minutes, particularly Hartbeeps and library Rhyme Time.

Bring a change of clothes. Sensory and messy play sessions mean exactly what they say.
